Some places are better explored while walking. This is definitely true of Intramuros. Known as the “Walled City of Manila,” the area’s gracefully aging stone infrastructure and Spanish architecture can only be thoroughly explored as a pedestrian.  And for photographers, there’s now more reasons to go.

The Department of Tourism recently announced a new policy allowing the use of professional cameras in Intramuros without a permit, provided the photos will be used for personal and souvenir photography. The Intramuros Administration, along with retail store CameraHaus, led the initiative to make heritage photography more accessible for everyone.

To celebrate, CameraHaus held its inaugural Street Summit on October 24, in partnership with the DOT and the Intramuros Administration. The summit invited photographers, content creators, and visual artists to explore the Walled City in a photo walk.

More than 300 people attended, capturing the beauty of Intramuros through their lenses. As a fun challenge, the summit centered on the theme ‘Intramuros Reframed,’ encouraging photographers to look past the usual views and see the Walled City from different perspectives.

Through initiatives like this, century-old attractions like Intramuros aren’t just preserved, but shared in new and creative ways. Perhaps the next time you visit the Walled City, these photographers can help you see it in a new light, too. Were you part of this community photo walk? Share your photos in the comments.
