PIMS 2010: 6 ways to develop green motoring habits

Rev up for environment-friendly driving
Aug 21, 2010

Beyond just promoting new cars and new automotive technologies, the Chamber of Automotive Manufactures in the Philippines and its partners are taking advantage of the four-day Philippine International Motor Show to empower Filipinos in becoming environment-friendly motorists.

With its My Ride + Earth campaign, the 3rd PIMS is the best venue to start being green with these show features and activities until August 22:

Green Motoring Guide. This is a great start for those who are absolutely clueless about how careless motoring hurts the planet. CAMPI is giving one copy of the guide to the first 5,000 visitors at the PIMS for each of the motor show's four-day run.

Eco Driving Talk. If you'd rather listen than read, take a seat during the Eco Driving Seminar to be hosted by Ford Group Philippines tonight. The lecture starts at 6 p.m.

Green Technology Pavilion. Engine and vehicle technology simulators with interactive presentations featuring environment-friendly systems are housed here so make sure you don't forget to stop by this area.

Motolite's Balik-Baterya Program. What do you do with old car batteries? Bring them to the PIMS and drop them at Motolite's Balik-Baterya booth where you'd be assured they will be properly disposed of.

WWF's Carbon Footprint Kiosk. Your body may not have a muffler but your lifestyle may be leaving harmful emissions in the environment. Check just how much carbon dioxide and other nasty stuff you're producing during the PIMS.

More Smiles, Less Piles. Your kid may not be old enough for a driver's license yet but you can start cultivating that green motorist in him by encouraging him to join the PIMS's More Smiles, Less Piles program. CAMPI is accepting old toy car donations during the duration of the PIMS. These toys will be handed over to Caritas Manila for distribution to less fortunate kiddie-gearheads. Kids who participate in the program will be given a certificate and a green badge for their donation.
