Without a shadow of a doubt, Hyundai is the fastest-growing automotive brand in our market right now. A much-improved quality and far more dynamic styling are responsible for the company's resurgence. An equally important factor is the arrival of exciting new models. In the past 13 months or so, Hyundai has given us the new Tucson, the new Sonata and the new Accent.
For 2011, Hyundai intends to sustain its amazing climb on the market-share charts with the expected launch of the all-new Elantra compact sedan within the first half of the year. Official specs and features are not yet available, but we have a strong suspicion that Hyundai will bring in the same engine powering the Elantra's US models, which is a 1.8-liter gasoline unit mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Now, there were mixed reactions toward the pricing of the recently introduced Accent. To help Hyundai Asia Resources peg the price of the new Elantra competitively, we want you to answer this question: How much do you think the new Elantra should cost, assuming it has the abovementioned engine under its hood?
Below are only unofficial specs and features, which we gathered from very special friends who have unknown superpowers. Now is also your chance to let HARI know which features you want to see on the new Elantra.
MAKE AND MODEL: Hyundai Elantra
VEHICLE TYPE: Four-door compact sedan
ASSEMBLER'S PITCH: "Successful sedans all have a distinct silhouette and Day Light Opening (or D.L.O., a designer's term for the side glass), and the Elantra is no different. Along the Elantra's sides are the Sonata's flowing lines, with the addition of a strong undercut feature line starting at the front door. These lines, along with muscular wheel arches and a sleek roofline, create a memorable and spacious package. Flowing lines also lead to an aerodynamic body. The drag coefficient for the Elantra is an exceptionally low 0.28."
