Today is International Women’s Day, and I couldn’t be more proud. I’m married to a driven career woman, I have an eight-month-old daughter, and I was raised by my mother and three older sisters. It seems that all my life I have been surrounded by strong women, and this has molded me into the man I am today. I have nothing but utmost respect for women. At times I have even worshipped the ground they walk on, but please don’t ask which past flames I’m referring to.
Anyway, take a look at the automotive industry: A number of key positions are now held by women. Personally, this shouldn’t even be considered a big deal anymore
However, not everybody shares this progressive worldview. Below are the FB comments to the question: “What’s the most sexist thing you’ve experienced while driving?”
We thought we would only get a handful of responses. Sadly, this wasn’t the case. If anything, please let this piece be a wake-up call. We should be better than this, guys...
Caroline DJunsay: “Babae ka, pero ang galing mo mag-drive.”
Marissa Angela Austria: “When someone tells me, ‘Wow, manual
Agnes Jorgensen: “The casa inventing nonexistent repairs and charging me for replacement parts I don’t need. Grrrrrrrrr.”
Ritty
Rizzi Mae Orteza Ruiz: “Two men on different occasions both said that I should be driving an automatic car since ‘three pedals plus stick shift’ are for men. Here’s the catch: I was the one who taught them how to drive a manual vehicle back when they were newbie drivers. And both of them were my exes, and one of our dates included driving lessons.”
Beep Tan Jarantilla: “I absolutely hate the sticker ‘Caution Lady Driver’. WTF is that?”
Ivanna Amodia: “Those ‘Caution New Lady Driver’ stickers. So fudging sexist.”
Fher Ysabel: “When most of the commenters misread SEXIST as SEXIEST. Oh my.”
Here’s what I want to add to the list{ Seeing stickers on lowered cars that say ‘No fat chicks.’ Please, dude. Do yourself and the car community a favor and remove those stickers. You are making genuine car guys like us look bad.
