Why you shouldn't ride shotgun in drifting

Castrol Philippines just sent us to Nurburgring to take part in the "Castrol Edge Experience," a smorgasbord of driving exercises at the legendary racetrack in Germany. One of the driving activities was drifting using a BMW M3. Our instructor simply told us to "turn off the DSC (dynamic stability control), put the transmission in second gear, maintain 2,000rpm, then step on the throttle as you turn sharply."

The interesting thing was that we had driving partners with us--which turned out to be a bad idea, as seen in the video below. During our first stint, Paolo Duay, Castrol Philippines’ distributor for north and south Manila, rode shotgun as we tried to master the art of sliding sideways. Let's just say Paolo wasn't smiling after the first turn...
