It feels surreal to have this much information on one of the most anticipated video games of all time, but this is where we’re at: Grand Theft Auto VI is nearly upon us. Ahead of the November 19 release date (which seems to be set in stone now), we’ve got more details on pricing and preorder details for Rockstar Games’ upcoming blockbuster.

Pre-orders for GTA VI open at midnight on June 25 in the US, which is just a few hours from the time of this writing. The base game will cost $79.99 (around P4,900), while the Ultimate Edition with added goodies sits at $99.99 (around P6,100). As industry observers have expected, the game will be pushing price tags for triple-A titles past the current $70 status quo. For context, the standard edition of Forza Horizon 6 stickers for $69.99.

But what exactly does that Ultimate Edition offer on top of the base game? On the dedicated website for GTA VI, it appears that a wealth of vehicles, weapons, and customization options are exclusive to Ultimate Edition owners.

This has caused some controversy in the community, sparking debates whether this move from Rockstar is essentially gatekeeping gameplay features behind a higher price point, or just typical gaming business practice of reserving premium cosmetics for buyers willing to spend more.

Beyond that, however, this announcement also provides us with brand new screenshots of the vehicles we can expect to find in GTA VI. The immediate standout is the upgrade in rendering detail of these legally-distinct cars from previous titles. For example, check out this ’95 Grotti Cheetah, an unlicensed analogue to the Ferrari 512 TR.

Compare it against any of the more recent vehicles introduced in GTA V’s Online mode, and it’s obvious that Rockstar has overcome the plasticky look that the previous game tended to have. The vehicles in these GTA VI screenshots look more comparable to recent racing games like The Crew Motorfest and Forza Horizon, no doubt thanks to new behind-the-scenes tech that would take a whole other article to get into.

Pre-orders for GTA VI will only be available for PS5 and XBox Series X/S; as with the previous title in the franchise, it looks like the PC version will be coming a bit later. Are you going all in on GTA VI? Or is the discourse on pricing and exclusivity holding you back for now? Let us know in the comments.
