The start of August saw the Weekend Shared Street initiative kick off in Makati. Throughout the weekends of the month—August 1 to 2, 8 to 9, 15 to 16, 22 to 23, and 29 to 30—certain streets in Salcedo Village will be closed off from 12:01 AM on Saturdays to 11:00 PM on Sundays to create car-free spaces.

As with other car-free initiatives, the Weekend Shared Street aims to temporarily make streets safer and more enjoyable for pedestrian activities such as walking, jogging, and cycling. The initiative’s pilot run this month also aims to gather feedback from everyone involved to help better shape public spaces in Makati.

The Weekend Shared Street initiative is being carried out in partnership between Ayala Land and the Makati City LGU. The announcement post on Ayala Land’s Make it Makati Facebook page reads: “The initiative is part of Makati’s long-term vision to create a more connected, walkable, and livable city through a walkable network of streets.”
