Could the timing have been more perfect than this? This year’s Honda Asian Journey (HAJ) was centered on the brand’s awesome lineup of sport bikes—and the event just so happened to coincide with Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez’s epic clinching of the 2019 MotoGP title. It’s the Spaniard’s eighth world grand prix championship.
Since HAJ’s inception in 2016, it has given participants the opportunity to take Honda’s latest big-bike models on an exciting 600km adventure. This year, it was all about the racing machines, so don’t be surprised to see the ‘double R’ on the CBR’s red, white, and blue livery. The more Rs there are, the faster the bike goes.
Before the four-day journey kicked off on October 31st, the 60+ participants this year were given a road-safety briefing and bike-familiarization activities at the kart track of Sepang International Circuit when...boom! Marquez and his teammate Jorge Lorenzo suddenly showed up to welcome the riders.
In the past, Honda’s MotoGP stars had only joined the HAJ riders during the gala dinner the night before race day. But since the briefing was conducted just a stone’s throw away from Sepang’s main track, Marquez and Lorenzo managed to drop by and say hello.
It’s like the Philippine contingent—Zach Lucero of Makina, Al Camba of Inside Racing, Darwin Zialcita of News Moto, and Gilbert Sison and Hervic Villa of Honda Philippines—won the lottery for being able to take a #groufie with the two top guns of MotoGP.
But here’s an intriguing question: Did the two MotoGP riders steal the limelight from Honda’s four potent track weapons—the CBR250R, the CBR500, the CBR650, and the CBR1000RR SP?
Check out the photos below and tell us which of these CBR models you want to see in the metal here in the Philippines:
