Led by defending champion Takase Tanaka (pictured above) of Japan, the competitors represent the big guns of the Asian motocross circle, and all of them have one target: to qualify for the world championship of the FIM program.

The annual Asian motocross leg is organized by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA), the sole governing body of two-wheel racing in the country that is affiliated with the Philippine Olympic Committee, FIM Asia, and the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme. This year, the race organizers have come up with a challenging course to guarantee thrilling jumps, heart-stopping turns, and other novel obstacles, says Stephan ‘Macky’ Carapiet, president of FIM Asia president.

Standing in the way of Tanaka are motocross champions like Sean Lipanovich (pictured above) of Guam and Thanarat Penjan of Thailand, along with wildcard riders from Russia.

Top guns of motocross from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, India, China, and Sri Lanka will also be among the participants.

Flying the Philippine flag are local ace riders that include reigning ‘Rider of the Year’ Kenneth San Andres (main photo) and Rhowell Mangosong, who topped the MX1 and MX2 classes in the national series held two weeks ago.

During the event, the organizers will hold the FIM Asia CMS Officials Licensing Seminar and the FIM Asia Supercross Advanced Rider Academy, designed to provide the additional knowledge for individuals who are planning to participate or get involved in motocross events. And on November 23, the eve of the awarding, everyone will also be treated to a big fireworks display.

Don’t you think this event is a valid reason for you to take a breather from the monstrous SLEX traffic jam? Popcorn and soda, please!
