The Honda Grom, touted as the “undisputed King of Fun,” has undergone a makeover for the current model year.
The sportbike that popularized the mini-moto concept receives a new engine—a 124cc SOHC air-cooled, single-cylinder—with higher compression. The new Grom has a narrow bore and a longer stroke than the previous version. This, Honda says, allows for better fuel efficiency.
The refreshed model is equipped with 220mm front and 190mm rear single disc brakes, with an inverted fork suspension up front and a single shock at the rear. It’s also fitted with 12-inch, 10-spoke wheels, and a 6.1-liter fuel tank.
Riders will have no problem flat-footing the Grom given its low (30in) seat height. Aside from its two-up capability, the bike also boasts a flatter seat that has thicker padding for taller users.
Other features include all-new bodywork, LED head and taillights, a five-speed transmission, multi-function digital instruments, optional ABS, and a special color scheme (Pearl White with gold-finished components).
“The Grom has been a hit since rolling into the scene in model year 2014. Countless people have learned to ride on a Grom, or taught someone else how to ride on one. Others have used to spice up their local rides and commutes,” Honda Powersports assistant manager of communications Colin Miller said.
The 2021 Honda Grom will be available in Matte Black Metallic, Queen Bee Yellow, Pearl White, and Candy Blue (ABS) with a base MSRP of $3,399 in the US, or around P165,000.
