If there’s one bike we’d really like to see in the Philippines soon, it’s the all-new BMW F450 R. Its GS twin lived up to the hype, so we’re expecting more of the same with this new naked bike.
Much like the smaller GS, the F450 R borrows styling from its bigger sibling, the S1000 R. It looks like a proper BMW bike, with the brand’s signature roadster headlamp up front and iconic colors adorning the fairings.

The German marque says the focus here was on riding pleasure enabled by “a carefully engineered chassis and geometry layout, rigorous weight optimization, and a powerful parallel-twin engine.” Said engine, as expected, is the same unit in the F450 GS: A 420cc parallel-twin that produces 48hp at 8,750rpm and 43Nm at 6,750rpm, with 80% of the maximum torque available at just 3,000rpm.

The two-cylinder engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission with Easy Ride Clutch and BMW Shift Assistant Pro. In other words, that’s a quickshifter, and it’s available on the higher variants. The F450 R gets a stainless-steel underfloor muffler, tuned for road riding in this particular model. BMW also claims its new bike can do about 26km/L (3.8L/100km), so the 14-liter fuel tank should give a maximum range of about 350km.

The BMW F450 R comes with a 43mm KYB upside-down front fork with a Sport Suspension setup that adds adjustable rebound and compression damping. A KYB central spring strut, also available adjustments, is fitted out back.
This bike sits on 17-inch cast-aluminum wheels shod in 110/70-17 front and 150/60-17 rear tubeless tires. Stopping power is handled by a 310mm disc with a four-piston Brembo caliper up front and a 240mm disc with ByBre single-piston caliper at the rear.
BMW has also given the F450 R the patented 6.5-inch TFT display available in its other models. This unit comes with Pure Ride Screen, with Riding Modes Pro and three additional Sport screens available in the M Sport variants. Speaking of variants, there are four available at launch, namely: Base, Exclusive, M Sport, and M Sport with Innovation Package.

“The BMW F450 R has everything that defines a true BMW naked bike: performance, precision, and pure riding pleasure,” said BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch. “It is light, agile, and full of character. We have developed a motorcycle that inspires confidence from the outset while also generating a lot of excitement. With the F450 R, we are bringing our decades-long naked bike tradition into a compact and especially accessible format.”
Seeing as BMW Motorrad Philippines didn’t make us wait long for the F450 GS, we’re expecting a similar (shortened) timeline for the F450 R. Keep your eyes peeled.
