When Ducati released the DesertX a while back, it had its sights set mostly on one thing: the Dakar Rally. From the get-go, it was touted by many as one of the best adventure bikes out there.
But for the most part, it was an adventure bike built for the dirt—not the road. For touring purposes, you’d be better off getting a Multistrada. But Ducati wishes to somehow address that, it seems, as it’s now come up with the new DesertX Discovery.

This is the newest addition to the DesertX stable. It sports the same mechanical bits—the same 937cc Testastretta twin-cylinder engine powers the Discovery, and it’s still good for 110hp at 9,250rpm and 92Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. It also still has the same Kayaba upside-down front fork and rear mono shock with 230mm and 220mm of travel, respectively, as well as 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels. The bike also still comes with Brembo brakes that come with cornering ABS.
The changes with the Discovery are found in the accessories list. Ducati has equipped this DesertX with amenities like heated grips and turn-by-turn navigation that can be accessed through the head unit. The bike also gets a bullbar, protective radiator grille, engine guard plate, and center stand. The photos here show aluminum cases, but those are sold separately.
So, what do you think of the Ducati DesertX Discovery as a tourer? Did the Italian manufacturer get it right with this new DesertX variant?
