“Are you feeling the hotness?” This was the opening line of Regan King, dealer principal of Harley-Davidson of Cebu and Davao, to welcome the Harley riders who traveled from across the country to join the Harley-Davidson Days.
In case you’re not familiar, the event is held annually all over the world—United States, Europe, Canada, and even some parts of Asia—and is frequented by Harley fans in celebration of the mythical cruiser lifestyle. Us Filipinos have waited for a local leg for so long.
This local staging of Harley-Davidson Days, however, did not coincide with a global event. Harley-Davidson of Cebu thought it would be more appropriate to stage the first iteration in the country in time for the dealership’s third year anniversary.
Just like the various Days held abroad, the local version was a parade of exotic Harley bikes—old and new models—that rolled out from the Queen City to the scenic Balamban City in the morning of November 23, 2019. In a two-column formation, the Harley-Davidsons took on the twisties of the Transcentral Highway leading to Balamban City with the loud roaring of their V-twin engines drawing the attention of the residents along the route.
“We bond together in these past two days to express that we are not just bikers, nor it’s all about our bikes. But most of all, the bond we hold together as brothers on the road and in life,” said King to the riders, who were mostly members of the Harley Owners Group (HOG). “You are all my brothers and family.”
After the ride, the Harley owners converged at Mandani Bay to witness the bike competition, the static motorcycle display, and the road-safety seminars conducted by racing coach Joey Storm Rivero and acclaimed Harley-Davidson riding instructor Clyde Solano, who is based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Also present were Luiji Lardizabal and Jay Bautista of Harley-Davidson of Manila.
We’ve featured the HOG from Cebu as among the few motorcycle clubs in the country who are against taking mistresses to official events and club rides. This time, they were apparently given a safe-conduct pass by their respective partners on that evening to watch the Biker Babe competition and, as a bonus, to welcome the gorgeous candidates of the 2019 Binibining Cebu pageant.
But the true highlight of the first Philippine Harley-Davidson Days was the launch of the 2020 Harley-Davidson motorbikes led by the Road King Special. Capping the night was a big party with ’80s music from a live band. Could there have been a more perfect setting than this for the cruiser-riding titos and titas?
By the way, we were told by one of the riders that most of these HOG members also own other big bikes from various brands. But who cares? Just take a cue from this famous Harley line: You might have all the best bike brands in the world, but it will never be complete without a Harley-Davidson.
