As seen at the 2026 Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA), the Honda Fireblade CBR1000RR-R lineup is undergoing some major changes—inside and out—for its 2027 update. Just how major? Well, a whopping 75% of the supersport bike’s existing parts have reportedly been reengineered to achieve all sorts of performance improvements.

For starters, the chassis features a newly designed two-cylinder frame, the engine mount now uses a bolt-on configuration with separate brackets, and the swingarm’s dimensions have been adjusted. These changes help optimize body rigidity, which is critical to the Fireblade’s cornering performance. The thin-wall gravity die casting process also helps fine-tune that rigidity while making it 440g lighter than the previous chassis.

The weight savings continue with the fuel tank, which is now made of titanium. On the Fireblade SP, the titanium fuel tank features a “hand-finished hairline treatment that leaves portions of the titanium surface exposed,” providing the striking look you can see here.

For the suspension, the Showa (on the Fireblade) and Öhlins (on the Fireblade SP) setups have been retained, with adjustments made to account for the new chassis. Honda says the new suspension settings allow the bike to better handle imperfections on the open road while still maintaining track performance.

The updated CBR1000RR-R will also get first dibs on new tech from Honda: a two-stage variable-length intake air-funnel system. To save you the gory engineering details, this basically provides a fuller power band, especially around the midrange.

Elsewhere on the power unit, the two-motor throttle-by-wire system has been upgraded with more precise control, which translates into better throttle response and engine braking. Oh, and the cylinder head cover now uses magnesium instead of aluminum—that’s another 200g off the outgoing Fireblade.

The 2027 update also sees the introduction of the HRC Works Edition to the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade lineup. While the Fireblade and Fireblade SP both strike a balance between on-track performance and off-track comfort, the HRC Works Edition is a proper homologation model for the Superbike World Championship.

It features bodywork like winglets and fairings made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic for even more weight reduction. The suspension uses Öhlins NPX front forks and a TTX36 rear suspension, while Brembo Hypure Sports components handle braking. Honda will also offer a racing kit to go along with the HRC Works Edition to allow owners to meet race regulations.

All things considered, this is Honda honing the Fireblade into an even more lethal track weapon. Fingers crossed the updated CBR1000RR-R arrives sooner rather than later—let us know what you think in the comments.
