Can these proposed IDs convince the IATF to reconsider its stand vs. ‘backriding’?

More riders are desperately appealing to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to lift the ban on motorcycle ‘backriding’ for members of the same household due to the shortage of public transport. The IATF had earlier maintained that pillion riding will not be allowed even under general community quarantine (GCQ).

A social-media user with the Facebook account Taga Pansol posted these identification cards he had designed, hoping they will catch the attention not only of the IATF, but also of local government officials in the country. Look:

The proposed ‘motorcycle pass’ has a control number as well as the official seals of the IATF and the local government unit where the rider and the pillion rider reside.

According to the social-media user who designed the pass, taking public transport is currently more dangerous than riding motorcycles because there’s a bigger possibility of catching and spreading the coronavirus on board public transport vehicles. He also made some suggestions on how to effectively implement the use of the pass and avoid the abuse of the privilege:

  • Only the official backrider can ride as a passenger.
  • A duly authorized barangay official will be designated to issue the pass.
  • Only the spouses or partners, children, siblings, and parents of the rider may be authorized as backriders.
