For years, we’ve longed for Honda’s quirky little bikes like the Trail 125, Dax, and Monkey. They’re small, cute, easy to use, and insanely fuel-efficient—ideal for the daily commute around Metro Manila.
It appears rival manufacturer Yamaha, however, wants to finally challenge Honda in this space. The Japanese marque has now previewed the PG-1.

Powering the Yamaha PG-1 is a 114cc single-cylinder engine that’s mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. It gets a disc brake up front and a drum at the rear.
As small as this bike is, it still actually has a split seat, so there will be space for a pillion. It also has that retro vibe thanks to the round headlamp and the analog instrument cluster up front. It also comes in a variety of colors, because why the heck not?
Okay, so Yamaha Motor Philippines may not exactly have space in its lineup for a bike like the PG-1, but hear us out—if in case it does decide to bring this in, it’ll have no competition in this segment. At least not yet. We’re not betting on it, but it sure will be a pleasant surprise if and when this does make its way to our market.
