The 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), as always, had its fair share of motorcycles on display. The Yamaha booth in particular had quite a number of bikes up on stage, with two of its latest models getting most of the attention: The all-new Yamaha YZF-R9 and YZF-R3.
These two new sport bikes took center stage at BIMS this year, and we got to take our first proper look at it. But for the purposes of this article, let’s focus on the supersport bike, the R9.

This is somewhat an indirect successor to the famed R6 and the bigger sibling of the R7. This made its global debut late last year, and now it’s finally in the region. Could this mean a local launch is imminent? We don’t know, but we sure hope so.

The all-new YZF-R9 boasts aggressive styling, with a very sharp-looking front end that reminds you that this is, in fact, a very fast and agile bike. Its design is where the new R3 derives its styling from, and is a glimpse of the next-generation design language Yamaha is going with.
But as good as this bike looks, what makes it truly special are its mechanical bits. It’s powered by a 890cc liquid-cooled, three-cylinder CP3 engine. While Yamaha hasn’t shared exact figures, we know a similar powertrain the MT-09 SP puts out 117hp at 10,000rpm and 93Nm of torque at 7,000rpm.

What we do know about the bike is that it has a ‘nearly perfect’ 50-50 front-rear weight distribution. It also gets fully adjustable KYB front forks and a rear shock with a new low-speed valve, said to be a first in the industry. On top of these, the bike itself is incredibly lightweight, coming in at just 195kg when wet.
This should excite a lot of riders in the region. In any case, we’ll be here waiting patiently for Yamaha Motor Philippines to bring this in. What do you guys think about it?
