The Yamaha YZF-R9 (commonly known as the ‘R9’) first appeared on Philippine shores during the 2025 Yamaha Motorshow. Back then it was only a preview, but this year Yamaha Motor Philippines quietly revealed the flagship sub-1,000cc sport bike on its website with a price of P899,000.
Recently, the R9 also received new homologation papers from the Land Transportation Office. Does this mean an all-new R9 for 2027, just a year after its local launch? Not quite. The same bike previewed at the Yamaha Motorshow is mechanically identical to what was launched this year and is what we can probably still expect for 2027. But that’s far from a bad thing.

Yamaha has spec’d this bike with an 890cc crossplane three-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It produces 117hp and 93Nm of torque, with a top speed of 230kph according to LTO papers.

Styling-wise, the R9 adopts similar styling cues to the rest of the YZF sport bike lineup. It has aggressive headlights, sleek fairings, and functional winglets at both the front and the rear. Underneath the fairings is Yamaha’s new aluminum Deltabox, which the brand says is the lightest supersport frame it’s ever made.
Other goodies include dual-disc brakes at the front equipped with Brembo calipers, Yamaha Ride Control with six customizable modes, a five-inch full-color TFT display, cruise control, launch control, lift control, a quick shifter, and a Yamaha Variable Speed Limiter to help you use full throttle without exceeding your desired speed.
While the LTO already gave homologation papers for the R9 back in 2025, this new 2026 file could mean an update of new colors like the recently unveiled Matte Phantom Blue & Fluorescent Red colorway. There haven’t been any further announcements from Yamaha Motor Philippines, but we’ll make sure to keep you posted when the time comes. What do you think of the YZF-R9? And would you choose it over the YZF-R1M that has more power and more tech but for double the price?
