An iconic car is joining James Bond's 1964 Aston Martin DB5, which will be put on the auction block later this month. The more modern Bond car--a 1998 Jaguar XKR used in Die Another Day--is estimated to fetch at least P1.73 million.
Driven by Bond villain Zao, played by Rick Yune, the Jaguar XKR is actually a special-effects car equipped with "a Gatling gun mounted centrally behind the seats, missiles firing from the front grilles, rocket launchers in the doors and mortars in the boot." On top of the special effect equipment, the car comes with Dorchester gray body kits, an R-performance option interior with Recaro bucket seats, 20-inch silver Detroit-style road wheels and Brembo brakes.
A total of eight Jaguar XKRs were used in the film with this particular car being one of the four built with a four-wheel-drive chassis for the film's dramatic car chase on ice. Powering the car is a 5.0-liter Ford Mustang engine and transmission, both of which are smaller than the Jaguar’s which meant it could be moved further to the rear to accommodate the modified Ford Explorer front suspension and four-wheel drive system required for filming in Iceland.
The car remains original and unmodified since Die Another Day finished filming and it is being sold directly by Jaguar Heritage.
RM Auctions estimates this Jaguar XKR will go for £25,000 to £35,000 (over P2.42 million). If the estimates hold true, this will definitely be a lot cheaper than Bond's estimated £4 million (now over P277 million) Aston Martin DB5.
