The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI)--together with the Truck Manufacturers Association--has released the official sales figures of its members for August 2012.

Market leader Toyota sold slightly less in August (4,725 units) compared to the same month last year, but continues to lord it over the rest of the pack with a total of 40,383 units from January to August this year (an 18-percent improvement from its year-to-date total of 34,190 units in 2011).

Mitsubishi sold 2,530 units in August--a 20-percent jump from the 2,107 units the company moved in the same month last year--in spite of selling just 139 passenger cars (which we expect to change once the Mirage small hatchback finally arrives). For the year so far, Mitsubishi has now sold 22,761 units, 4.3 percent better than its 21,812-unit performance in the same period last year.

Honda's sales dipped a bit in August, moving 1,011 units, down from 1,070 in the same month last year. Honda's year-to-date sales now stand at 8,193 units, down 9.6 percent from last year.

Isuzu sold less in August (787 units) compared to the same month last year, but continues to perform much better overall (7,579 units) this year than it did from January to August in 2011.

Ford (with Mazda) sold 727 units in August, significantly down from the 942 vehicles it moved in the same month last year. For the year, the company has sold 5,773 units, a puzzling 30-percent dip compared to the same period in 2011.

Kia declared 530 units for August, slightly better than its 519 last year. The company has now tallied 5,038 units, a huge 58.4-percent surge from its 2011 numbers.
