Gold can be a tricky color to apply to a vehicle. Depending on how and where you go about using on a car, you could end up with an end product that looks laughably tacky or incredibly stylish.
For the most part, though, there’s one surefire way to make it work: go for a dark and gold color combination. The Brabus 800 Black and Gold Edition is a fine example of this rule, as is Subaru’s iconic use of the color. Add the BMW 8-Series Golden Thunder Edition to that list, too.
To be honest, we’re not big fans of the name—it sounds like what would happen if the National Basketball Association's Thunder decided to ditch Oklahoma City to set up shop next to Steph Curry and the gang. Its look, though? Its look we can get behind.
The Golden Thunder’s body gets a Sapphire Black metallic or Frozen Black metallic finish paired with a handful of gold accents that contrast its dark, stealthy vibe. Gold lines run along the sides of the vehicle, and the rear spoiler, side mirror housings, and 20-inch M light alloy wheels come in the color, too.
Inside, the Golden Thunder flaunts a ton of black leather, Alcantara roofliner, and aluminum trim with a gold finish. ‘Edition Golden Thunder’ is also embroidered on the seats’ headrests, and glass has been used for a handful of controls.
No word on pricing, but production is of the BMW 8-Series Golden Thunder Edition is scheduled to begin at the German carmaker’s Dingolfing plant in September 2020, and you can get the look on the 8-Series coupe, gran coupe, and convertible. Like it?
