TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Diesel-powered Jeep Cherokee to debut at Geneva Motor Show

While the new-generation Jeep Cherokee isn’t sold locally by the brand's distributor (CATS Motors), the company might change its mind now that the American truck maker has announced that a diesel-powered version of the resurrected nameplate will be launched at the Geneva International Motor Show next month.

A new 2.0-liter Multijet II turbo diesel mill powers the oil-burning Cherokee, generating either 140hp or 170hp--depending on the variant--and putting out 350Nm of torque. Paired with the 140hp version is a six-speed manual transmission, while the 170hp model gets a new nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Both versions of the Cherokee come with a stop/start system that improves its fuel efficiency and reduces its carbon-dioxide emissions.

Available in two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations, the new-generation Cherokee "is engineered to excel on all terrains." Jeep also claims that the Cherokee is the first midsize SUV to feature rear axle disconnect, which supposedly results in reduced friction and energy loss "when 4x4 capability isn't needed," thereby ensuring improved fuel efficiency.

So, do you think CATS Motors should bring in this diesel-powered Cherokee for the Philippine market?
