Selectable drive settings that change how a car behaves are nothing new. Usually, the settings range from Comfort for relaxed cruising, to Sport which essentially sharpens the car's performance. For the Ford Focus RS, which made its public debut at the ongoing Geneva International Motor Show, its engineers gave it a drive setting that will please your inner Ken Block: a Drift mode.
Ford describes the Drift mode as a "specially developed calibration for all-wheel drive that modifies torque distribution to help the driver achieve controlled oversteer drifts under circuit conditions."
We shouldn't be surprised that the Focus RS has such a setting. After all, Block was brought in as a consultant during the car's development.
As for the other selectable drive modes, drivers can also choose Normal, Sport or Track using a switch found beside the gear lever. Depending on the mode, the switch modifies the settings of the all-wheel-drive system, damper controls, electronic stability control, steering and engine response, and exhaust sound.
