Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines (OJP) have introduced the fourth vehicle in the joint brand’s lineup and the second vehicle to don the ‘Jaecoo’ badge—the Jaecoo J7 SHS.
The SHS in its name stands for ‘Super Hybrid System,’ which means—you guessed it—the new car is a hybrid. Specifically, the Jaecoo J7 SHS slots into the competitive subcompact to compact SUV segment with a hybrid powertrain that’s good for 340hp and 525Nm of torque. Decent numbers overall, but perhaps its most eye-catching trait is its advertised 1,200km of driving range.

To bring truth to tale, the Jaecoo J7 SHS recently went on a four-day endurance test, supervised by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), to verify its driving distance capabilities. With a full tank of gas and a fully charged battery, the test started in Biñan, Laguna, and OJP went up north following the Northern Loop Route. The J7 SHS found itself in mixed terrain and traffic conditions as it eventually ended up in the sandy shores of Ilocos Norte and Aurora before heading back towards Metro Manila.

The driver would shift the car between full-EV mode and hybrid driving throughout the journey, making up a fuel economy of about 24.4km/L over the four-day drive.

At the end of the trip, the Jaecoo J7 SHS surpassed its alleged 1,200km driving range, clocking in 1,488.8km as it arrived back in Laguna. A second J7 SHS unit drove alongside it, and it also reached an impressive 1,480.1km. The two hybrid SUVs even had 44km and 24km of range left, respectively.
OJP has yet to announce when the Jaecoo J7 SHS will be available for order. The duo currently has three cars in its available lineup, with two EVs and one ICE vehicle. Having a hybrid onboard would be a welcome addition for a new brand in the Philippine market.
