The first rumblings about the Mazda CX-8 came a few months ago, when it was announced along with a photo of its three-row interior. Now, the Japanese carmaker has given us our first look at the exterior of its new crossover SUV.

This all-new model will serve as the brand's flagship SUV in Japan, built for those who appreciate quality and the idea of having more than five seats. Naturally, it was conjured up with Mazda's Kodo design philosophy in mind.

Available specs so far for the CX-8 include dimensions that stretch 4,900mm long, 1,840mm wide, 1,730mm tall, along with a 2,930mm wheelbase. Under the hood will be a 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D new-generation clean diesel engine, mated to a six-speed automatic tranny.

The CX-8 goes on sale in Japan before the end of the year. No confirmation yet if it will be available anywhere else. Would you guys like to see the crossover SUV sold here?
