Brabus has followed up the launch of its portal-axled, apocalypse-proof Mercedes-AMG G63 XL800 with this XLP800 Adventure pickup. If you’re wondering why, the simple answer is...why not?
It carries over the same cosmetic changes as its SUV brethren, including the beefed-up coilover suspension, more aggressive bodykit, and red glow side-exit exhausts, but the big difference is that custom flatbed out back. As a result, it loses the twin-pronged rear wing and rear door, but gains different side panels and a proper roof rack, with the option of a custom tent.
There are additional strengthening beams at the back, too, for additional strength. And the cargo bay itself is lined with a ‘Soft Teak’ material nabbed from Brabus’ speedboat armada. Very cool.

The change in body style has also forced Brabus to design a longer drive shaft that pushes the rear axle further back, which means the XLP’s overall length goes over five meters. Yeah, it’s long, and likely terrifying to park.
AMG’s trusty twin-turbo V8 has also been cranked up to 789hp and almost 1,000Nm of torque, courtesy of a recalibrated power control unit and modified turbos. Identical outputs to the SUV, but the extra dimensions mean 0-100kph takes two-tenths longer at 4.8sec. Still scarily quick, mind you.
You’ll also notice the sidesteps along the flanks, since this thing’s ground clearance is a frankly ridiculous 470mm. They’re crucial in getting you into the XLP’s very Sky Blue cabin, packed with quilted leather and joyous amounts of carbon.
Brabus wants £750,000 (P55.5 million before taxes) for the XLP, which is just over £200,000 (P14.8 million) more than the XL. Maybe ‘why’ is a valid question, after all...
