Remember the one-off BMW i8 that we mentioned last week, which was going to be auctioned off at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance? You know, the one that came with exclusive Louis Vuitton luggage? Yes, that one.
Well, it sold for $825,000 (P36 million)--approximately six times its retail price of $135,700 (P6 million)--to an unidentified buyer. And no, comedian Jay Leno didn't buy the car (at least according to official news). Instead, he, together with BMW North America president and chief executive Ludwig Willisch, presented the car before it went under the gavel.
As we reported, the exclusive i8 is clad in BMW Individual Frozen Gray Metallic exterior paint, and comes with a Dalbergia Brown leather upholstery, which is tanned using dye derived from plant extracts and accented with stitching in BMW i Blue. Further marking the car as one-of-a-kind are the words "Concours d'Elegance Edition," which are laser-etched in the interior, and the "BMW i8" embossed into the front headrests.
Ah, to be rich and bored with money.
