Korean cars have been a staple on Philippine roads for quite some time now, as everything from city friendly mini cars to crossovers and minivans. But as rugged pickup trucks? Not exactly.
That might be about to change though, as SsangYong Philippines has teased that it is bringing in the Musso. In case the name sounds familiar, it’s because the Musso was previously available locally as an SUV.
The company posted a preview video on its official Facebook page not too long ago showing the Musso racing through an urban setting, wide-open fields and a lush forest. The caption which accompanied the video reads: "The #Musso is coming soon." So no one’s exactly trying to be subtle about its impending arrival.
Other than that, there isn’t much else to go by. In South Korea, the Musso is available in either a 2.2-liter diesel engine (178hp and 400Nm) or a 2.0-liter gasoline (222hp and 350Nm) mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
What else can we look forward to regarding the Musso? Well, it’s a pickup truck, so it shouldn’t be affected by the additional excise taxes. Let’s wait for word from SsangYong Philippines regarding a release date, engine specifics and variants. For now, you can check out the teaser trailer below:
