We previously reported that the largest Subaru ever, the Ascent, will be making its way to the Philippines in 2020. Now, Tan Chong International deputy chairman and managing director Glenn Tan has revealed more details about the SUV.
During a press briefing at the 2020 Singapore Motor Show, Tan confirmed that the Ascent will be launched in our market in the third quarter of this year, and it will be carrying a different moniker: Evoltis. Given the Filipinos’ affinity for spacious people-haulers, the introduction of a large seven-seat vehicle will definitely come as good news to many, especially to Subaru fans.
Tan also confirmed that the Evoltis will be powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine, which is the same as the model in the US. This powertrain produces 260hp and 376Nm of torque, and will be mated to a Lineartronic CVT. The vehicle rides on the Subaru Global Platform, one of the core technologies that the Japanese carmaker applies to all its new vehicles. This provides a quiet cabin and a comfortable ride.
If the model we’re getting does end up being identical in spec to the US-market Ascent, then we can expect signature features like Subaru’s Symmetrical All Wheel Drive and EyeSight driver assist technology to come as standard with the Evoltis.
So, what do you think? Are you looking forward to the Evoltis’s arrival later this year?
