The Tesla Model Y L has been unveiled in China, featuring a longer cabin that has been outfitted with a third row of seats. Now capable of carrying six passengers, the Model Y L now features captain’s seats on the second row and a two-seater bench on the third row.
As compared to the standard Model Y sold in the Philippines, the Model Y L is a considerable 186mm longer. Aside from the extra passengers, the maximum cargo capacity on the Model Y L has been bumped up to 2,539 liters—another big upgrade from the Model Y’s 2,138-liter capacity. Its width remains unchanged at 2,129mm, while it stands 44mm taller at 1,668mm.

Interestingly, the Model Y L exclusively comes in a dual-motor AWD variant, packing an impressive 751km driving range. All of this will cost Chinese buyers RMB 339,000 (around P2.701 million), or just about P12,000 more than the locally available, long-range AWD Model Y.

It’s no secret that the Chinese market has a preference for larger people carriers, along with a growing affinity for electrified vehicles. It makes a lot of sense for Tesla to roll out a longer version of its best-selling model, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the American brand brought over its family-oriented Model Y to the Philippines.
MPVs and SUVs have become local favorites, in part, due to their relatively compact frames paired with spacious five- to seven-seater cabins. The Model 3 and the Model Y gave the brand a strong start in the country, and it will be interesting to see what Tesla Philippines does next.
