The BMW 7-Series is arguably one of the most technologically advanced cars around. Some of you may recall that we likened the all-new model to a spaceship, referring to the vast amount of tech goodies it packs. And now, thanks to the tuners at Alpina, it may very well be as fast as one, too. We are, of course, talking about the new Alpina B7 xDrive.

Case in point is the 4.4-liter twin-scroll twin-turbo V8 motor that puts out 600hp from 5,750rpm to 6,250rpm, and an equally heady 800Nm at 3,000rpm. The latter figure is so immense that as much as 670Nm is available from as early as 2,000rpm. That power is enough to propel the full-size sedan from zero to 100kph in a sports car-like 3.6 seconds, and all the way to a terminal velocity of 310kph.

The stellar numbers are courtesy of engine tweaks like large intake and exhaust ducts for the twin turbos, a free-flowing cooling system, and additional water cooling and oil coolers for efficient engine temperature at any speed. Plus, Mahle pistons and NGK spark plugs ensure that the motor will be able to withstand even the hotter reaches of the thermostat resulting from a 20psi boost pressure and a 10.0:1 compression ratio. In other words, your engine stays cool even when the action heats up.

Matching the potent lump is a ZF-sourced eight-speed Switch-Tronic gearbox that is tuned for both comfortable and sporty driving. Choose between relaxed cruising and spirited performance using the steering wheel-mounted paddles or gear lever. It’s like having the best of both worlds in one gearbox.

Meanwhile, features like Road Preview, along with active roll stabilization and active steering, help give the driver total confidence even on the tightest of twisties. Owners can even customize the settings using the Individual mode. It’s personalized driving style at its finest. Plus, the grippy performance is helped in no small part by Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber sized 255/40 ZR20 up front and 295/35 ZR20 at the back. Twenty-one-inch rims are optional.

Being an Alpina, the B7 xDrive has a look to match its mean engine specs. The subtle body enhancements are complemented by twin elliptical tailpipes, along with exclusive Alpina Blue and Alpina Green metallic paintwork. Inside the classy and tech-filled cabin is a dynamic display that changes from classic round instruments in comfort mode, to a more energetic look in sport mode. It’s the perfect way to get in the mood for driving.

The third-generation Alpina B7 xDrive is set to arrive in dealerships by September of this year. With a mouth-watering package like this, the BMW 7-Series has just been elevated to even greater heights.
