Subaru is celebrating 30 years of the Outback with a very limited release in Japan.
Only 500 units of the 30th Anniversary edition Legacy Outback will be made available to the Japanese market. And to make things a little more interesting, hopeful drivers can enter a lottery to secure a slot to purchase the outfitted Outback.

The defining feature of this special Outback is the ‘30th Anniversary’ sign that adorns the car. Around back, there is a 30th Anniversary badge right under the Outback lettering, and inside, ‘30th Anniversary’ is stitched on the on the doors of the driver and front passenger. As for aesthetics, that’s sort of it. A bit underwhelming for a such a big celebration, but the gold might be in its drive.
This Outback gets a lot of love from STI as it looks like the suspension received the most attention. The front and rear dampers have been tuned by STI for a more textured and sharp drive (Subaru’s words). It’s also worth noting that in front is a Hitachi Astemo Sensitive Frequency Response Damper.

Under the hood, Subaru goes back to basics for a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) release, placing a 1.8-liter DOHC turbo engine for the AWD Legacy Outback.
Subaru looks to be banking on nostalgia, and perhaps a conservative love of the outdoors with this release. The rest of the kit can go unnoticed in the context of a 30th anniversary celebration. A blacked-out grille, bumper guards, roof rails, and lamp covers are all welcome, but again just a bit underwhelming.

To make matters more disappointing, Subaru is also ceasing production of the Outback in Japan. Making this release not only a celebration, but also a send-off for the beloved Outback. Perhaps Subaru has other plans in mind to properly say goodbye to the fan-favorite crossover.
The lottery for a chance to purchase one of these units closes on November 10, 2024, with deliveries expected to begin sometime in April 2025. Lucky winners will be able to choose between white, gray, black, gold/opal, and bronze paint jobs. Subaru also says the special edition Outback will cost ¥33,000 (P12,596) more than a standard unit.
