Creating a Vision Gran Turismo for the Gran Turismo franchise is a chance for automakers to design a car that isn’t limited by real-world constraints. The most recent to join the party is Xiaomi, the first tech company invited to join this project.

Xiaomi unveiled its virtual car at the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2026. The Xiaomi Vision GT gives us a preview of a hypercar designed from a tech company’s perspective.

Xiaomi wanted to find the right balance between low drag and maximum downforce. So, it has created a design principle called ‘Sculpted by the Wind,’ a ‘less is more’ approach that has been optimized for aerodynamic efficiency.

The Vision GT’s profile resembles a teardrop, forming channels to guide air efficiently around the vehicle. It features cross-shaped headlamps, halo-shaped taillights, and a massive air outlet structure.

The rear features an Active Wake Control System. It uses sensors and tiny holes around the taillight in lieu of conventional spoilers to actively force turbulent air away from the vehicle. There’s also a magnetic system underneath that keeps the vortex-shaped wheel covers flush to the tires at all times. Through simulated testing, Xiaomi says the Vision GT achieves a 0.29 drag coefficient, negative 1.2 downforce, and a 4.1 rating in aerodynamic efficiency.

The interior, meanwhile, reflects Xiaomi’s ‘Sofa Racer’ concept, exchanging rigid lines for a warm and comfortable design. Instead of traditional bucket seats, the Vision GT gets a ‘cocoon-like cockpit,’ integrating the door panels with the seats to hold the driver in place.

The dash features Xiaomi Pulse, an intelligent assistant that connects to sensors around the car, reading the environment and the driver’s state, while communicating through light and sound. The cockpit also has HyperVision, which can display telemetry data and navigation. Xiaomi has also added an infinite-shaped steering wheel with physical controls.

The tech firm has integrated its ‘Human x Car x Home’ smart ecosystem into the Vision GT as well. This connects the car with an AI assistant and integrates with your other personal devices. Xiaomi has also created a driving simulator as part of its design exploration to experience using the concept car in an actual living space.

“The invitation itself was a recognition of what Xiaomi has achieved,” said Xiaomi EV design head Tianyuan Li. “It allowed our teams in Munich, Beijing, and Shanghai to collaborate, to push boundaries, and to envision what a future hypercar could look like when designed without limits.”

“The overall design maintains its simplicity while revealing an indescribably sleek and incredibly sexy curved aesthetic,” adds Gran Turismo producer Kazunori Yamauchi. “What impressed me most was how Xiaomi resolved the contradiction between low drag and high downforce. When I saw their complete solutions, I was truly amazed. I believe this car will become a role model for this era.”

While the release date in Gran Turismo 7 is still unconfirmed, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any announcements. What are your thoughts on the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo, and would you drive it when it’s released?
