The Chevrolet Cruze may soon see an old competitor return in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) as Ford is reportedly keen on fielding the all-new Focus in the racing series.
According to Autosport.com, the American carmaker has tapped the services of Arena International Motorsport since the outfit runs the new Ford Focus in the British Touring Car series under the Team Aon banner.
"We are evaluating the build of a WTCC car and we've started work already. It should be ready in November," Arena team principal Mike Earle was reported to have said. "It's an evaluation project with Ford and we'll decide where we go with it. No one has committed to anything."
Autosport.com added that the Ford Focus cars that the American carmaker hopes to enter in the WTCC will be tested by Team Aon's driver lineup of Tom Chilton, Andy Neate and Tom Onslow-Cole.
Ford last raced in the WTCC in the 2005 season with the Hotfiel Sport team.
