(UPDATED GALLERY) Toughness and style go together in the 2009 Ranger series recently launched by Ford Group Philippines.

The Ranger sports a fresh exterior with its raised hood, wrap-around headlamps, and the distinct three-bar grille which used to be available only in the full-size Ford pickup - the F150.

The latest Ranger's 4x4 models and the Trekker also come with a new six-spoke 16x7-inch wheel while the 4x2 variant goes with a 15x6.5-inch wheel.

"We recognize Ranger's reputation for toughness and durability, and we built on those qualities with modern design features to accentuate its sportiness and confidence," said Paul Gibson, Ford Motor Co.'s chief designer.

The Ranger comes in two choices of Duratorq TDCI engines - one producing 330 Nm while the other goes at 380 Nm. A 2.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine with mechanical fuel injection that delivers 280 Nm is also available.

The 2009 Ranger comes in 4x4 and 4x2 variants, plus the 4x2 Trekker which stands with a 207mm ground clearance similar to that of a 4x4.

The truck is locally available in Highlight Silver, Black Mica, Cool White, Nifty Red, Winning Blue and Desert Bronze.
