TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Frankfurt preview: Jaguar reveals C-X16 Concept

Jaguar has finally revealed its C-X16 Concept, which the British carmaker will officially unveil at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

According to Jaguar, the C-X16 two-seater hybrid concept "has inspired new advances in design, engineering and vehicle technology to create the most compact and responsive Jaguar in a generation." Ultimately, the C-X16 Concept serves as a bold statement of Jaguar's future design and technological direction.

Under the clamshell bonnet of the C-X16 Concept is a next-generation supercharged V6 petrol engine that produces 380hp and 450Nm of torque. Integrated into its eight-speed gearbox is an electric generator, which draws power from a 1.6kWh battery pack mounted behind the seats for a perfect 50:50 weight distribution. The battery is charged through a brake energy regeneration system. Utilizing a Formula 1-inspired hybrid boost system operated through a steering-wheel mounted button for on-demand acceleration, the electric motor provides an additional 95hp and 235Nm of twist.

With this kind of power output mounted on an aluminum chassis, the C-X16 Concept accelerates from zero to 100kph in just 4.4 seconds while the sprint from 80kph to 120kph takes only 2.1 seconds before the car reaches its top speed of 300kph. All this is achieved while the C-X16 Concept only emits 165g/km of carbon dioxide. On electric power alone, Jaguar claims the C-X16 can travel at speeds of up to 80kph.

Th carmaker added that the C-X16 is the smallest car it has created since the XK120 in 1954.

"Jaguars have always been dramatically different," said Jaguar Cars' design director, Ian Callum. "With the C-X16 we have moved the current award-winning design language on to the next generation, creating a car that is the very essence of future Jaguar performance."
