To reflect the new world we live in, Rolls-Royce has decided to update its flagship vehicle in the Phantom by fitting it "with contemporary yet timeless design enhancements that frame the introduction of cutting-edge technologies," which significantly improve the car's drivetrain, ease-of-use and connectivity.
For its front fascia, the Phantom Series II sports re-styled bumpers and rectangular light aperture that, perhaps, best encapsulates the essence of the significant changes that lie beneath. The Phantom Series II also gets full LED headlamps, making Rolls-Royce the first carmaker to include the technology on a production car.
Even the vehicle's interior has been reworked as the Phantom Series II now comes with new driver assistance technologies and a modern user interface with a redesigned multimedia controller. The new satellite navigation system has also been fully updated with functions that include 3D maps with landscape topography, guided tours and enhanced points of interest, as well as composite route planning. The vehicle also sports a larger 8.8-inch control center display, a feature underlined by eight programmable bookmarks presenting access to key functions at a driver’s fingertips. Front, rear and top-view camera systems further augment ease of maneuvering.
Lastly, a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and rear differential not only enhances the already exemplary driving dynamics of the Phantom Series II but also improves its fuel consumption by 10 percent and lowers its carbon dioxide emission from 388 to 347g/km.
"From launch in 2003, the Rolls-Royce Phantom established itself as the benchmark in automotive luxury, a reputation it has held ever since," said Rolls-Royce Motor Cars' chief executive, Torsten Müller-Ötvös. "These cars are timeless in their appeal, but technology moves rapidly and we cannot afford to stand still. Today I am delighted to present Phantom Series II, a family of models that feature significant improvements in design, drivetrain and technology. As a consequence of these changes, we will continue to present with pride the best motor cars in the world, which reconfirm Rolls-Royce’s position at the very pinnacle of the ultra-luxury goods marketplace."
