Another Chinese car company is hoping to penetrate the Philippine automotive market, which is currently dominated by Japanese automakers.

Great Wall Motor Co. Ltd. displayed five of its products at the 2009 Manila International Auto Show where its booth was flanked by two other Chinese brands in the local market – Chery and Foton.

First on Great Wall’s list was 2008 Beijing Motor Show favorite – the Peri, a subcompact measuring 3,500mm in length, 1,500mm in width, and 1,500mm in height. It is powered by a 1.3-liter engine.

For those in market for a compact hatch in the mold of Toyota’s Yaris or Suzuki’s Swift, Great Wall has the Florid which comes packed with a 1.5-liter VVT (Variable Valve Timing) engine.

Great Wall also displayed the Cowry, a 2-liter multipurpose vehicle, for growing families; and the Hover, a crossover utility vehicle, for motorists who prefer sporty rides; and the Wingle, which is one of China’s top-selling pickups.

Great Wall is currently sold in over 50 countries in the Middle East, South America, Russia and Africa. The brand is expected to make its vehicles commercially available in the Philippines by the middle of the year.
