Audi has marked a milestone with the production of the three-millionth A3 rolling off its assembly line, with the unit--a white Sportback 2.0 TDI Quattro--being delivered to its owner soon.
\"Three million automobiles in the compact class is quite a performance,\" said Audi board member for production Frank Dreves. \"This success is backed by a strong team and an efficient production system. With the A3, we have created a new brand segment--we have been setting standards in the compact class with innovative technology and first-class quality for 17 years now.\"
The first A3 rolled out of Audi\'s assembly line 17 years ago, with approximately 913,000 units of the first-generation model being sold globally. The second-generation model followed in 2003, selling nearly two million units.
The third--and current-- A3 was launched in 2012, with 152,993 units being produced at Audi\'s Ingolstadt plant. In the market since February 2013, the A3 Sportback is currently the most produced model at the Ingolstadt site, with roughly 700 units rolling off the assembly line every day.
