The Bangkok International Motor Show, held from March 26 to April 5, enjoyed strong attendance and new vehicle bookings this year, despite the March 28 earthquake in neighboring Myanmar disrupting regular programming in the Thai capital.
A total of 1,601,111 visitors flocked to the annual event, which saw over 50 participating car and motorcycle brands. Event organizer Grand Prix International reports that 79,941 new vehicles were reserved during the event, consisting of 77,379 cars and 2,562 motorcycles. This figure represents a 44.8% increase over the bookings made in 2024.

Of the total reservations, 65% were electric and electrified vehicles, with the remaining 35% being combustion-engined cars. SUVs gained “significant popularity” this year, GPI added.

Chinese carmaker BYD also outdid Toyota and captured the highest number of reservations, recording 9,819 bookings versus its Japanese competitor’s 9,615 bookings; this is a massive leap for BYD, which had only 5,345 reservations in 2024. GAC came third this year with 7,018, and Deepal and Honda completed the top five with 6,067 and 5,948 bookings, respectively.

Meanwhile, Yamaha had the most motorcycle reservations with 1,286.
“One key indicator that reinforces the Bangkok International Motor Show’s role in driving the automotive industry is the fact that many car manufacturers have chosen to extend the same promotional campaigns used at the show to their nationwide sales efforts,” said Jaturont Komolmis, executive director and chief operating officer of GPI and vice chairman of BIMS. “This strategy has led to increased bookings across the country.
“It also reflects the strong confidence from car and motorcycle manufacturers, as well as automotive business operators, in the significance of the event. Their continued participation to showcase automotive technologies and innovations—alongside significant investments in building elaborate booths and spectacular presentations—demonstrates their commitment to the show year after year.”
