Reported since June 2011, Mercedes-AMG and Aston Martin have finally confirmed that both brands will be entering a technical partnership with one another.
In the Letter of Intent recently signed by both companies, Mercedes-AMG will supply Aston Martin with engines, while Mercedes-Benz will provide the British luxury sports carmaker with electric and electronic components for its future models.
\"We have selected AMG specifically as the basis for this powertrain development process,\" said Aston Martin product development director Ian Minards. \"Aston Martin sources cutting-edge technology from key suppliers around the globe, and the opportunity to include content from Mercedes-AMG in our next-generation sports cars is, clearly, good news.\"
To go with the technical partnership, Mercedes-Benz\'s mother company, Daimler AG, will own a 5% share in Aston Martin \"without cash consideration\" and sit as an observer in its management board.
\"We are proud to work with Aston Martin and provide them with powertrain and electric and electronic components for their forthcoming sports cars,\" said Mercedes-AMG head Ola Kallenius. \"This is proof of AMG\'s technological and performance expertise, and a real win-win situation for both sides.\"
