When it comes to automotive performance, it’s not just speed and sheer acceleration that manufacturers pay attention to—stopping power is also a big point of concern. And when it comes to stopping power, there are two major factors: tires and brakes.
Now, two leaders in these two fields are partnering up to combine their know-how to develop their respective technologies further: Michelin and Brembo. The two giants will focus on improving safety and comfort standards using Brembo’s expertise in vehicle modeling and AI as well as Michelin’s connected solutions software that will provide tire-grip data to Brembo’s Sensify braking system. This will then allow engineers to enhance Sensify’s characteristics by fine-tuning braking systems with greater precision.
Michelin’s expertise in tire physics modeling and simulation used in tire development is what its connected solutions heavily rely on. For example, it has already concocted software that enables live analysis of tire information such as wear, load, and grip.

“We are thrilled to join forces with a brand like Brembo, a leader in its field. Our shared passion for innovation and excellence allows us to take a new step forward in enhancing user safety,” said Michelin Business Line Automotive Original Equipment president Serge Lafon. “Allowing customers to keep their tires in use as long as possible with total peace of mind is a core objective of Michelin, thus protecting their purchasing power as well as the environment. Today, Michelin is a ‘data-driven company’ where simulation and software development are essential tools in the real-time monitoring of tires. Together, Michelin and Brembo are building a unique solution for the vehicles of the future, developed today by the car makers.”
“At Brembo, we believe in the power of technology and artificial intelligence,” said Brembo CEO Daniele Schillaci. “In fact, we are increasingly becoming a company combining software capabilities with our expertise in the corner of the vehicle, mastering calipers, discs, and friction materials with a unique know-how. Sensify represents the new standard in braking that will target a zero-accident vision. This partnership with Michelin illustrates the power of collaboration and innovation in the automotive industry.”
Michelin and Brembo have already conducted both virtual and physical tests, with the latter confirming the results of initial simulations. The first tests showed significant reductions in braking distances for cars—up to four meters or 13 feet—during ABS events using the same tires in different conditions. Braking systems also yielded quicker response times, minimized traction loss, and improved lateral stability without instances of wheel locking.
While the two brands have yet to share specifically what will come out of this partnership, we’re still excited to see what Michelin and Brembo can accomplish together. What do you guys think?
