As the 2014 Shell Eco-Marathon Asia kicks off this weekend at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, the petroleum company is being joined by Michelin as the event's official global paddock partner and tire supplier.
"Michelin and Shell share the same values of putting innovation at the heart of developing better mobility, to make it safer, cleaner, more efficient and more enjoyable, which is totally in line with our company's purpose of giving people a better way forward," Michelin Group technical communication chief Damien Hallez-Gozard told the press today.
Although the Shell Eco-Marathon allows the participating teams to use any tire brand of their choosing, Michelin, for its part, is offering to subsidize its tires to any team that requires it.
In addition, Michelin has also developed a tire specifically for the Shell Eco-Marathon that "provides low rolling resistance" and contributes to the lengthening of a vehicle's travel time. The French tiremaker even claims that its Shell Eco-Marathon tire is approximately six times more efficient than its Energy E-V tire, which was developed exclusively for electric vehicles.
Besides supporting the event with its tires and assisting the teams with its technical know-how, Michelin will also have an exhibit at the Partner Innovation Village inside the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia compound at the Quirino Grandstand. There, the public can check out Michelin's tires and attend forums and discussions "to learn and experience the Michelin Total Performance."
With Shell Philippines staging the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia in the country for the next three years, Michelin Philippines marketing and communications manager Caroline del Rosario told TopGear.com.ph that the tiremaker will continue as the event's paddock partner and tire supplier for the duration of the event's stay in the Philippines.
If you have the time this weekend, drop by the Quirino Grandstand, cheer on the local teams, and tour the public access areas because this is probably the biggest motoring event we'll host this year.
