Mitsubishi Motors Philippines (MMPC) has big plans coming. Months after the company’s announcement to join the local government’s Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) program, Mitsubishi has now revealed it is investing P7 billion to produce hybrid electric vehicles in the country.
On a global scale, Mitsubishi identifies ASEAN as a core growth region. With the Philippines as one of the brand’s priority markets, expanding the company’s local manufacturing portfolio strengthens Mitsubishi’s presence in the country while broadening the mobility choices for Filipino consumers and contributing to the growth of Philippine automotive manufacturing.
“MMPC has always taken a long-term view of the Philippines,” said MMPC chairman Noriaki Hirakata. “We see significant opportunities to strengthen local manufacturing, introduce new technologies, and help shape the next chapter of the country’s automotive industry.”

Mitsubishi points out that its plans to manufacture HEVs at its facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna, are in line with the EVIS program’s vision of strengthening the competitiveness of the Philippine automotive industry. The company adds that it continues to invest in its people, in strengthening partnerships with local suppliers, and in enhancing its operations’ competitiveness.
“Hybrid electric vehicles represent a practical next step for the Philippine market,” said Hirakata. “By expanding our local manufacturing portfolio, we are broadening mobility choices for our customers while supporting the country’s ambition to strengthen its automotive manufacturing capabilities.
“Our ambition extends beyond manufacturing vehicles. We want to help position the Philippines for the future by contributing to a more competitive, innovative, and resilient automotive industry. We believe that is the enduring contribution MMPC can make to the country.”
