We just got a call from Petron and learned that the oil company has introduced the very first Euro 4-standard premium-plus gasoline in the country.
"Petron Corporation marks another milestone in fuels technology with the launch of the first Euro 4 premium-plus gasoline in the country that meets European fuel quality standards," said Rafael Ledesma of Petron's corporate affairs department. "The new Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4 is specially formulated to meet the more stringent and environment-friendly Euro 4 standard."
Euro 4, of course, is the globally accepted European emission standard for cars, which requires fuel with significantly low amounts of sulfur (0.005% or 50 parts per million) and benzene (maximum of 1% by volume). At the moment, the Philippines is stuck with Euro 2, which allows up to 0.05% sulfur and up to 2% benzene. Petron says its new Euro 4 premium-plus gasoline is being launched two-and-a-half years ahead of the government mandate for this fuel standard, set to take effect by 2016.
Among the benefits of its new product, Petron claims, are the following:
* "Powerful performance due to its extremely high octane and exceptional engine cleaning capability";
* "Fuel-efficient operation due to its organic combustion enhancer and custom friction modifier"; and
* "Environment-friendliness because it meets European specifications for cleaner fuel."
Petron also adds that with 100 RON, the new fuel product "has exceptional resistance to engine knocking, which damages car engines quite quickly."
The company also emphasizes that while Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4 is recommended for high-performance cars like those of Porsche, Lamborghini, McLaren and Ferrari, "other cars will get the same performance benefits because of its very high octane rating and performance-enhancing additives."
"As the market leader in the local oil sector, it is our responsibility to be at the forefront of producing more environment-friendly fuels," Petron chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang said in a statement. "This new product is proudly Philippine-made. This is also an all-in-one fuel. It provides superior engine power and improved fuel economy, and can be considered the most environment-friendly fuel in the Philippine market."
Petron's Blaze 100 Euro 4 will be initially available at 24 service stations in Luzon, "along major thoroughfares in Mega Manila." It will be available in Visayas and Mindanao in the coming months.
