Suzuki has just unveiled its new Technology Strategy, which will gradually unfold over the next 10 years. While the strategy primarily focuses on increased vehicle production, it will also develop new electrified powertrains.
These include a series hybrid—yes, a full HEV—along with a range-extended powertrain. Before any celebrations commence, Suzuki did not say when these new engines will go into production or which nameplates will use them. The brand, however, disclosed that its e-4WD system will be applied to its next-generation HEVs.
As for the range-extended powertrain, it is expected to have similar components to the series hybrid system—meaning a smaller battery will likely be used to drive the electric motor. Suzuki has preemptively called this platform REEV Light, and it will probably arrive after the initial round of full HEV models.

At least we can expect all of these sometime in the next 10 years? Right? Well, that means these new electrified vehicles could arrive as early as next year, or as late as 2036.
As mentioned, a big part of this plan is improved vehicle production, which Suzuki will roll out across its global manufacturing network. In India, specifically, the Japanese carmaker aims to ramp up production to four million units by its 2030 fiscal year.
Along with increased volume, Suzuki is also looking to optimize its production costs through more efficient battery technology. As many as three distinct battery packs are set to be developed to fit the specific needs of Suzuki’s major markets and production hubs. Moreover, these batteries are expected to be lighter, improving vehicle performance and reducing overall power consumption.
With a 10-year roadmap laid out, hopefully these developments will be worth the wait.
