Here at Top Gear Philippines, we love ourselves a little friendly competition every now and then. Maybe you’ve noticed this by the number of polls or Spec-Sheet Brawls we put out on our website. A healthy debate about anything involving cars is something we’re always up for.
With that in mind, Interbrand has released its annual ‘Best Global Brand Rankings’ for 2018, and it’s once again bound to get people talking. This year, 15 car manufacturers made the cut, as well as one motorcycle company.
Before we break down this year’s list, let’s talk about how it was compiled to begin with. The entries were chosen by Interbrand based on market, brand, competitors, and financial data. These factors were assessed, “areas for growth identified, and the financial impact of investing in the brand quantified.”
For a brand to qualify for the study, at least 30% of its revenue must come from outside its home market. It must also have a significant presence in Asia, Europe, and North America, and there must be sufficient publicly available data on the brand’s financial performance. Lastly, it must show long-term economic profitability, and it must possess awareness across the major economies of the world.
Anyway, below are all the car brands on this year’s list:
7) Toyota
8) Mercedes-Benz
13) BMW
20) Honda
35) Ford
36) Hyundai
40) Nissan
41) Volkswagen
42) Audi
52) Porsche
71) Kia
78) Land Rover
80) Ferrari
90) Mini
93) Harley-Davidson
100) Subaru
Subaru is the only new entry, car-wise, in this year’s rankings. Did your car’s manufacturer make the cut? Were there any surprises for 2018? Let us know what you think in the comments.
