Is Rolls-Royce planning to build a small car or an SUV?

Someone from inside thinks so
Mar 20, 2012

Last week, Bentley revealed the EXP 9 F, the British carmaker's take on what its sport-utility vehicle could look like if it did make one. And once upon a time, Bentley rolled out of the same factory as Rolls-Royce. So, is it possible that the latter might one day produce its first SUV or maybe even a small car? Its former managing director thinks so.

"Rolls-Royce has to move with the times and we have a couple of things we are looking at in terms of evolving the design and these could be additional to the cars we already make," said Ian Robertson, who now serves as the global sales and marketing chief for Rolls-Royce's parent company, BMW. "Even though this is a super-luxury vehicle, the brand has to see if there are other areas it could move into. We are looking at all sorts of things but we will not rush into anything. Luxury SUV is a growing market, we are discounting nothing but we are not in a position to confirm anything."

We can only hope that if Rolls-Royce does decide to make an SUV, it'll be better executed than Bentley's EXP 9 F concept. Your thoughts?
