Mercedes-AMG is celebrating the 45th anniversary of its famed AMG high-performance tuning brand by giving us a glimpse of its A45 AMG, which the company claims is its first "high-performance vehicle in the compact class."
A 2.0-liter turbocharged, in-line-four engine that has a maximum torque output of 400Nm and low fuel consumption level, was specially developed for the A45 AMG. Unlike the other A-Class variants with their front-wheel drive system, the power from the A45 AMG’s engine is diverted to its performance-oriented all-wheel drive system through its Speedshift seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
"Our goal is to build the most dynamic, most powerful and at the same time most efficient four-cylinder series production compact car," said Ola Kallenius, chairman of the board of management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. "Together with other future high-performance compact cars, the new A45 AMG will embody exclusive dynamism and the 'AMG Performance 50' growth strategy. With this passionate commitment to what for us is a new vehicle segment, Mercedes-AMG plans to make a significant contribution to the growth of Mercedes-Benz cars."
The A45 AMG will make its world premiere in the first quarter of 2013.
