The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has recently acquired new motorcycles and pickup trucks to augment its traffic and road emergency fleets.
The new vehicles-ten Foton pickup trucks and 50 Crown motorcycles-will be distributed to MMDA's frontline units like the Traffic and Transport Management Office, and its rescue and road emergency units.
"These new vehicles will not only improve our mobility but will also result to better service to the public, a smoother flow of traffic, and immediate assistance to those in need, especially motorists," MMDA chairman Oscar Inocentes said.
The new vehicles were selected based on the MMDA's needs and are equipped with sirens, blinkers and other features for traffic and patrol purposes, MMDA deputy chairman Cesar Lacuna said.
The Foton Blizzard pickup truck, for example, has four-wheel drive and is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. It is powered by a four-cylinder Japanese-designed engine for "more speed and durability in high-stress road conditions."
"These pick-ups are for multiple purpose use because we at the MMDA are not only involved in traffic management. We also provide rescue and emergency services during times of disaster," said Lacuna.
